At Countryside United Methodist Church, students in 2nd-6th grade are invited to lead worship by serving as acolytes. At the beginning of our sanctuary services, acolytes symbolically bring the “Light of Christ” into worship by processing down our center aisle with candlelighters to light the two candles on our altar table. At the end of the worship service, the acolytes remind us that we take the “Light of Christ” out into the world as they process out of the sanctuary with their lit candles.

Any student in 2nd-6th grade is welcome to serve as an acolyte after completing acolyte training. Training sessions are scheduled once or twice a year, however training can be scheduled at any time by contacting the children’s ministry coordinator, Becky Ericson ( To learn more, contact Becky.
