Prayer Shawl Ministry

This Team was organized in January of 2006 and to this day many of the original members remain active. Our mission statement summarizes what we do: “CUMC Prayer Shawls are sacramental gifts for times of grief, illness, and other life challenges to provide comfort, hope, healing, and peace through our blessings and prayers and God’s love through our hands.”

The Team meets on the third Wednesday of most months: January-May, July, September-November at 5:30 in Room B7. We have patterns, books and information ready to share with anyone who is interested in joining us. (Membership in Countryside is not required.) During the meetings we select shawls to meet our requests and pass them through our hands for prayers. A prayer card is attached to each one

The shawls may be either knit or crocheted and our variety of color and style allows us many choices when one is requested. We also provide baby blankets to the children’s ministry to include in their family baskets. At the beginning of 2014 we had provided over 250 prayers shawls and 50+ baby blankets. The thanks and appreciation we have received for our shawls has made this a very rewarding experience and source of joy for all of us.
