JOIN THE VBC 2021 TEAM!

Make this summer even more fun while giving of your time in a meaningful way through Vacation Bible Camp! YOU can make a difference in the life of a child this summer!

VBC will look a little different this summer (and we expect this to continue in the future as we navigate changes with the addition of a childcare center).

THIS SUMMER: VBC will meet in the evenings June 28-July 1 (M-Th) from 6-8pm. This change allows us to avoid construction noise and extra people being onsite. The only available space inside the church that works for all ages is the sanctuary and half of the Celebration Center, so we are planning for stations and small groups to meet outside. We are currently working on rain plans and will share those in June.

The theme is Jesus & Me: Choose Kind. This curriculum was created by Church of the Resurrection's children's ministries based off the book/movie Wonder and connected to 2 Bible verses and a saying often attributed to John Wesley. T-shirts will be provided for anyone volunteering for the bulk of the week and t-shirts are included with the registration fee for all campers! (Hopefully we are able to get them in time, as there are continued supply chain shortages.)

Here's a schedule of how the evening will go:

  • 6-6:15   Students arrive and meet outside in their small groups
  • 6:15-6:55  Large Group time in the sanctuary. Includes a drama, music, Bible verse/precept/video clip of the day, Bible story
  • 7-7:25   Rotation - Kids will visit only one station and it will be a different one each evening. Stations include: craft, Mission project, recreation (organized games), and "recess" - we are looking into making recess be the last day and having some sort of fun group activity
  • 7:30-8:00  Small Group Time & Check Out - kids will eat their snack and participate in activities in their small groups.

All volunteers should plan on attending one of two Zoom training sessions. Monday, June 21st at noon or Tuesday, June 22nd at 7pm. I anticipate training will take 30-60 minutes.

If you are not currently Safe Gatherings certified, please consider planning a time to complete these. It is an important piece of how we show that we care deeply for our children, youth, and vulnerable. This can be done online and you can start/stop as needed. It takes approximately two hours total to complete and certification lasts for 4 years. https://safegatherings.com/app/registration

opportunities for joining the team!

lead a station

Activities are already planned for the stations and supplies will be provided. Each night, a different group of students will visit your station. The station leader will work with station assistants to explain the activity to students and help them complete the project. The station leader will direct the assistants in helping to set up and tear down the station as needed.

Stations include: mission, craft and recreation. Additionally, we are looking for one person to be at the "recess" station to help set it up each evening and oversee. This station is tentative at the moment and would allow for open free-play.

Time commitment: M-Thu from 5:40-8:15ish, plus a meeting TBD with all station leaders and Becky Ericson before VBC begins

Small Group Co-leaders

Students will be assigned to roughly age-based small groups of 8-12 students. Each small group will have at least 2 co-leaders. These leaders will be provided with a binder/folder that has all the information needed to guide these students through the week.

Each evening, students start with ice-breaker games in their small groups, then they sit together for large group time in the sanctuary. After large group time, they will head to an assigned station (one station per night, with the station changing each evening) where station leaders will lead the activity and small group leaders will assist as needed.

Finally, students spend the last 30 minutes of the evening back in their small groups eating snack and completing other activities that will be completely scripted in the small group leader notebook. Students will be checked out from their small groups.

Time Commitment: Attend training; be present VBC week from 5:40-8:15pm

Drama Team

We are primarily looking for youth to help with the drama team. Students need to be fluent readers OR able to memorize scripts. We will be pre-filming our dramas to share in video format during large group time. Filming dates and times include:

Sunday, June 13 from 3-5pm

Tuesday, June 15 from 5-8pm (dinner provided)

Thursday, June 17 from 5-8pm (dinner provided)

We would appreciate keeping Tuesday, June 22 available as well in case we do not finish in time.

Drama leaders are invited to help in other roles and be present the week of VBC.

AV BOOTH

We will need people to run a couple of pieces in the AV booth. Trained AV technicians are preferred, but Becky Ericson can provide training. Students must be entering high school to volunteer in this capacity. Time commitment: 5:45-7:15 every evening of VBC.

Snacks

Snacks will be prepackaged and purchased ahead of time. Snack helpers will count out and distribute snacks to small groups each evening.

Time commitment: 6-8pm during VBC week

MUSIC

We will utilize music videos this year, but would love to have some people up front to lead the dance moves.

Time commitment:

Learn the dance moves in advance of each evening and attend from 6-7pm each evening of VBC. Dance moves can be learned at home on your own or we can look into coordinated rehearsals.

GREETERS

We could use 1-2 people each evening, especially at the start of the night, to help greet kids as they arrive and point them to where the small groups are gathered. Time commitment: 5:40-6:20 each evening of VBC.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

We do not anticipate any additional behind-the-scenes opportunities this year at this point in time, but will update if needs arise.
